BETBY Turns Live Sport Into a Slot-Style Spin

Spend enough time in a casino lobby and you’ll know the difference between a slot reel and a scoreboard. BETBY has spent the past few weeks trying to blur that line, and this week it took the result, a format called SlotBets, to the main stage at SBC Summit in Lisbon. The idea: let a live match itself spin the reels.
What’s been released
BETBY, the Malta-headquartered sportsbook technology supplier,
placed its recently launched SlotBets Games category and BETBY SlotBets product at the heart of its presence at SBC Summit in Lisbon
. The showcase included a dedicated press conference, a live product demonstration and an innovation hub
at stand C206
, with the session led by Chris Nikolopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer at BETBY, who introduced the commercial thinking behind the product and
conducted a live demonstration of BETBY SlotBets, allowing attendees to see the experience in action
. The first application to go live is SlotBasketball, built around real basketball fixtures rather than a random number generator.
How it plays
Rather than reels spun by chance,
SlotBasketball divides each 15-second round into three five-second windows, with the highest-value event in each period determining one reel, so the final combination is created by the match itself rather than RNG
. That borrows the visual language of a slot, reels, winning combinations, multipliers, while running entirely on live sporting data. According to BETBY’s own product page,
the format offers multipliers ranging from 20x to 1,000x within the 15-second rounds
, and the company pitches it as
the first match tracker that monetizes screen space, converting an area BETBY characterizes as passive viewing into an active betting engine
. The underlying logic replaces standard casino mechanics with match events:
the product replaces the random-number-generator mechanics of casino games with real-world events, with the match itself acting as the engine of the game rather than serving as decoration around a casino mechanic
.
Where it fits
BETBY’s Head of Innovation and R&D, Kirill Nekrasov, framed the launch as an answer to a familiar layout problem on operator sites:
sportsbook and casino often sit next to each other, but the player experience between the two is still very different
. The ambition goes beyond a single game. BETBY wants SlotBets Games to become its own recognised category, in the same way other mechanics have carved out their own space over time, pointing to
the act of playing slotbetting, with the wider SlotBets Games category intended to establish its own recognisable mechanics, terminology and player experience, much like Crash Games developed into a recognised category of their own
. Basketball is only the starting point: the supplier
initially tested the format with basketball games, but plans are in place to roll out the feature to other sports
, with esports and virtual fixtures flagged as likely next steps. For a UK market that has spent the past year watching Crash-style and show-style formats migrate between betting and gaming verticals, SlotBets is worth watching: it’s a reminder that the next wave of “casino” mechanics might not come from a game studio’s reel-set at all, but from the live scoreboard sitting right next to it.
