Stake caps: £5, and £2 for under-25s
Online slots in Great Britain are capped at £5 per spin, with a lower £2 cap for players aged 18 to 24. The caps apply to slots specifically — live casino tables are not covered, which is why high-stakes play in Britain has migrated to live blackjack, roulette and baccarat rooms.
For most players the practical effect is invisible: the vast majority of spins were already well under £5. The visible effect is on the top end of the stake slider and on how quickly a bankroll can be cycled.
The 10x wagering cap and the end of mixed offers
From January 2026, wagering requirements on UK casino bonuses are capped at 10x, and offers that combine casino and sports products are banned. This is the single biggest change to how UK bonuses look.

Autoplay and turbo spins
Autoplay and speed-up features are banned on UK online slots, alongside a minimum spin speed and a ban on sounds or images that celebrate a return of less than the stake. Each spin requires a deliberate action.
This is a harm-reduction measure aimed at the speed and dissociation of long slot sessions, and it applies across every Gambling Commission licensee.
Remote Gaming Duty at 40% from April 2026
Remote Gaming Duty on online casino gross gaming yield rose to 40% in April 2026, roughly double the previous rate. That is a tax on operators, not on players — you are not charged anything directly.
The player-facing risk is indirect and worth stating carefully: a doubled duty puts pressure on operator margins, and the levers operators have are bonus generosity, marketing spend, and the mix of game titles and return-to-player configurations they choose to offer. Deposit-limit prompts and financial risk assessments
From June 2026, operators must present deposit-limit prompts on a gross deposit basis and give them more prominence, so the choice appears in the flow rather than buried in account settings.
From July 2026, financial risk assessments begin a staged rollout starting with the largest operators, triggering at around £5,000 net deposits in 24 hours. They are data-based; the Commission has been explicit that players are not required to submit documents for them.
